BSc Physics

The Department of Physics came into existence with the introduction of Physics at the Pre degree level in1978 and became amajor department in 1993,when UG in Physics was introduced.

Aimed at inculcating science education to the students of the District, the discipline stands for moulding energetic youth for pursuing intense study and research.

Government College Malappuram is affiliated to Calicut university. BSc degree course conducted by the department of Physics is recognized by it. Physics is the main subject, Mathematics, the compulsory subsidiary and Chemistry is the other subsidiary subject. The duration of the course is three years. Normally the academic year starts in June and ends in March. Examinations are conducted by the University at the end of each academic year.
The sanctioned strength of students is 24. An addition of 5 seats are allowed every year. Thus total strength becomes 29. The admission is based purely on merit with reservation for SC/ST as per rules. Admission is based on the marks secured in science subjects in the +2/equivalent examination with due weightage for the score in Physics.

Each paper in Physics carries 60 marks Out of this 10marks is based on internal evaluation. Internal assessment is done through class tests, assignment, regularity, attendance etc. Continuous evaluation helps students upgrade themselves. Internal assessment is published well in advance so that the students can meet the concerned teachers/HOD for clarification/complaint, if any regarding the internal assessment.

Model examinations are conducted every year. Class PTA is convened at least once in a year. The feed back form the parents and teachers are given due consideration. A tutor is put in charge of each class. The interaction during the tutorial hours between the students and teachers is found to be very effective. The parents are encouraged to meet the tutors regularly.
